Carrier Fan Motor Replacement: A Field Checklist That Would Have Saved Me $1,200

I'm not a top-tier engineer. I'm a senior service manager who has handled Carrier service orders for eight years. In that time, I've personally made and documented 14 significant mistakes—roughly $2,800 in wasted budget, mostly from wrong parts and skipped tests. Quick warning: what was best practice in 2020 may not apply in 2025. The fundamentals of HVAC haven't changed, but the execution has transformed. Step 2: Test the Capacitor and Control Board First

This is the step I see skipped most often. A capacitor can read okay with a digital meter under no load, then collapse when the motor actually starts.
